We Hate Hills & Wind are not a club
or a formal team, just a bunch of blokes who are enjoying getting out at the weekend to try to stay a bit fit, get some
fresh air & some fun, followed by a lovely coffee & toast !! BUT we do hate hills & wind when cycling !!
The team is currently over-subscribed and joining the team is by invitation only. This may seem cliquey
but has previously ensured that we aren't & that there is good banter within the team. There are no
heroes, no racing, an ethos of sticking together for safety and practical reasons when we ride. PLUS you
must be able to give take & enjoy plenty of banter
In 2007 Glen, Scott,
Bryn, Gary & Terry took part in our first international ride in the Ardechoise region in the Rhones Alpes in France. Then
in 2008 the 5 of us took part in several individual day Charity rides, culminating with the London To Paris ride of nearly
300 miles in aid of Action Medical Research "Touching Tiny Lives" charity in aid of sick, vulnerable & premature
babies & raised nearly £7,000
In July 2009 the "Famous Five" grew exponentially to 25 of us who cycled
a longer tougher route of 340 miles from London To Paris raising £25,000 for the Touching Tiny Lives campaign &
£1,500 for the Chris Negus Memorial Fund.
In 2010 39 of us cycled the 324 miles from London to
Paris again raising more than £45,000 in the process - thanks to all of our sponsors.
In
2011 29 of us cycled 325 miles from London to Amsterdam and then onto Brussels raising in excess of £40,000
to achieve it. Additionally some of us took part in the London Great Swim plus our first Triathlon, which offered us further
challenges.
2012 will see us engaging in another challenging ride, from Geneva to Nice, raising in the region
of £30,000 in the process.
